New St. Marks Baths Photo Gallery - Interior shot: 100 Level Sign

Gay bath house sign taken from the wall of the New St. Mark's Baths, NYC, 1992

“100 LEVEL” PHOTO: 100 Level was on the first floor, which was at the top of the steps. Due to factors such as time restraints and sign placement, I did not photograph all signs as they hung at the baths. I later photographed them at home. If a sign was in a hallway, for example, the lighting challenges would not allow me to take a quality photograph, so I chose to gather most of the signs and take pictures later. I did not have back up flash or lighting. The only sources of light came from two flashlights: one held by Jonathan and the other by me. You had to watch were you walked because there were wood pieces on the floor. This particular sign was placed against a wall that had shiny black tile. For the photograph on this website, the sign was placed against a flat mat cardboard. The two holes show where it was screwed into the tile.
